Outdated caliper designs use all-aluminum construction, in many cases cast. Aluminum loses tensile strength as temperature increases, increasing caliper deflection. Even "monoblock" designs are subject to this deflection at temperature. Racing brake systems generate heat loads that easily weaken aluminum, causing brake drag and pedal drop.
